Veteran Journalist Alhagie Sarjo Barrow Laid to Rest

Veteran Journalist Alhagie Sarjo Barrow was on Monday 23rd December 2019 laid to rest at the Wullinkama Cemetery in Kombo North.

The late Mr. Barrow died at the age of 66 after a brief illness. Before his demise he worked with the Gambia Radio and Television Services. He also worked with Star Television as an adviser and news presenter in ‘Mandinka’ language.

His Funeral was attended by hundreds of mourners including Senior Government officials and the media circle.
At the Star Television and Radio where he ended his services, Alhagie Sarjo Barrow used to conduct training of young Journalist on local language broadcasting.
Mr Ebrima Sillah the Minister of Information said Alhagie Sarjo Barrow served as his mentor when he was working with the state media.

“Alhagie Sarjo Barrow trained me on how to report in ‘Mandinka’. He was very instrumental to the GRTS as he was one of the best ‘Mandinka’ news broadcasters,” he said.

The Minister of Information said his death is a great loss to Journalists and the media circle at large.

The Minister called on young Journalists to emulate Alhagie Sarjo Barrow and also disseminate news in local languages.

Mr Hamat Bah the Minister of Tourism and Culture said the death of Mr. Barrow is a great loss to the whole country.

“Sarjo Barrow has contributed immensely to the media, he has played his part as a Journalist up to his demise,” he said.

Hon, Bah said when Sarjo Barrow read news in the local language, it was always clear which showed that he knew his job.

Kebba Barrow one of the brothers of late Alhagie Sarjo Barrow said, their brothers’ demise is a great loss to the family.

Kebba Barrow said his brother has dedicated his entire life to the service of the country.
“We know Sarjo Barrow as a humble man, he worked as Journalist for the whole of his life and never jokes with his work,” he said.
